[Faculty] Berkley Reception

Dear Faculty and Staff Colleagues:

 

Since 2002, the College of Engineering has started each academic year with a
reception that includes spouses, friends and significant others.  For five
of these six years, the reception and dinner has been held aboard the
Berkeley.  It has been a great event!  Mari and I have thoroughly enjoyed
it.  Many of you have shared with me that you look forward to this
opportunity to get together with your friends from throughout the College.
After much discussion with the department chairs, individual faculty and
staff, we have however decided to suspend the Berkley reception this year
due to the very unusual and troubling economic situation.  Both staff and
faculty have approached me individually suggesting that the College should
move forward with a scaled-back event; but, I've decided that we will
postpone the reception until we get better sense of the economic recovery.

 

Plans are moving ahead for an all faculty retreat on Tuesday, August 25,
which will include a luncheon for both faculty and staff.  You will be
receiving information shortly regarding the retreat.  Cindi had previously
sent a Save the Day note for your calendar.

 

As always, I look forward to working with you through this new academic
year.  I thank you for your continued support of the students, departments
and the College of Engineering.  Enjoy the remaining summer!
